Winter Returns Again on Sunday.

Good Saturday evening everyone.
After a very warm, above normal and stormy week we had across the Commonwealth, the Cold Air finally seeped in late this afternoon with some Sleet.
SUNDAY looks to supply us with snow squalls with a “moist” Northwest flow setup. A Trof Axis, attached off Low Pressure, will interact with that Northerly flow and force the “lift” to supply some Snow Squalls across KY. Now, not all will see snow in the state, but I do think with enough cold air aloft at mid and low levels, temperatures should support precipitation to fall as Snow.

Now I do think there will be some Light accumulation associated with these squalls. It’s hard to define where these squalls will develop, but the I-65 Corridor and points EAST will have the more general placement for light accumulation. Light accumulation of a Dusting to 1/2” is possible in these squalls. Heavier bands will reduce visibility briefly. Some isolated bands. The highest accumulation will stay in far Southeastern KY and closer toward the VA state line where 1-2” of Snow is possible; that’s where the Winter Weather Advisory has been issued.

Temperatures associated with the Cold Air will stay well below our normals for mid-February.

Blustery Northwest flow will keep wind chill values into the 20°s for many locations in the afternoon; but this’ll be the precursor for Sunday Night/Monday Morning. WIND CHILL values based on Hi Res data shows Teens.

So in all, Winter comes back in, just for a few days before Tursday. The calendar still says February. Myself and Chris discussed this today that we think winter is still out there and we can’t say goodbye to Snow chances just yet. Late February and March has surprised our region with sporadic snow events in the past and given an active Jet Stream this year, things can happen.
Have a good night and we will see you next time.
